Common Core Controversy

e-learning english

In the ongoing mission to educate American kids on a level competitive with China, Common Core testing emerges. But Dr. Diane Ravitch, historian of education and Research Professor of Education at New York University, knows a high school student in Tennessee, Kenneth Ye, who also has experience with the Chinese education system. Ravitch’s blog includes an interview with Ye, in which he explains why he sees no value in making the American system like the test-driven Chinese system. He is a National Merit Semifinalist, National AP Scholar, and he scored a 35 on the ACT composite the first time he took it; his achievements were earned within the Knox County school system. “Students in China are striving to attend schools in the US for a reason,” he says in the interview. We explore education stories, like this one, in our Hot Topics section COMING SOON.
